MoFo Interlude: CVL's Care Package Swap

This morning I went to the post office to pick up my package from Jen at The RA Vegan. We were paired up through Lindsay's post. I had a lot of fun shopping for Jen, as she and her kids eat primarily gluten-free. Here is her post on the swap! I found a lot of neat products while browsing the aisles for her, and she sent me a lot of new vegan products as well!
These dried fruit packs, and a bag of Danielle's coconut chips (!) We know how much I love dried fruit. And the cat apparently likes snuffing at them too.

Some vegan dessert-y type things:

I am stoked about the Panda's licorice. Some people don't like the taste, but I love it.
On the more savory end of the spectrum:

Polenta means I don't have to put much effort into dinner! The fancy salt is also something I've been eying. I look forward to seeing what it adds to a dish.
And this sweet little picture frame:

When I was young, I had a bunch of the Guatemalan worry dolls that line the edge. You are supposed to whisper a worry to the doll and put it under your pillow, and while you sleep it takes away your worries. This frame is a really nice reminder of that and, I hope, a good talisman.

Thank you so much, Jen! It's a nicely put together box full of new foodstuffs and old memories.

Anyway, I wanted to get this post up so I can dig into the goodies but I will be back later with another recipe.

  1. What a great package! I'm curious to know how you feel about the salt. Is it saltier than regular salt or just pink? Hmm, you let us know. Also, I have one of those worry dolls in a necklace. I used to wear it all the time as a kid, but I never knew it was a worry doll! Now, it's so ragged, I wonder if it will still take my worries away...

  3. Fantastic! A lot of really great products - I haven't tried coconut chips, will have to put it on the list. Polenta does make dinner fast and easy! I like it with a mushroom ragout recipe from Terry Walter's _Clean Food_. Can't wait to hear what you prepare for your non-vegan guests this weekend! :)

  6. Fun stuff! Care packages are the best, whether you're giving them or getting them. Although it is quite a bit nicer when you get to be the one devouring the contents later on. ;)

  7. Interesting swap. Lots of products I've never seen before.

Didn't know Panda made that Good & Plenty type licorice, I'll have to get some for Mr. SV.

What was the Vegan Caramel bar that you mailed her? I've never seen Vegan Caramel.

  8. BM, I used the salt today on kale salad and it was WAY saltier than normal salt!! Weird! That necklace sounds great.

    Molly, I agree!

Ingrid, thanks for the tip on the ragout. I love Terry Walters.

VAVA, the coconut chips are AMAZING.

Jen, you are so right. They're addictive. I had to hide the bag. Thanks again!

    Hannah, so true...

Shen, the licorice is marketed as G&P style but the flavors are peppermint and lemon. I don't know if that changes anything. Lemon sounds weird, but it wasn't bad.
The chocolate was Sjaak's brand. I randomly found it in a specialty store about here.

  9. Bummer, Mr SV hates lemon. I'll look for the Sjaaks.
