Toad Style and other things

A few more

pumpernickel everything with tofu cc from The Bean

WF salad bar lunch: carrot in hazelnut salad, roasted red pepper, greens, olives, tofu kabob, and what I thought was baba ganoush but was horseradish hummus, oh well.
Jarrod and I went to Toad Style for a late lunch one very warm day:

Chilled pea soup special with pea, avocado, mint, and scallions. Neither of us were very taken with it but it looked pretty.

                                                             his mushroom banh mi

my BBQ jackfruit with coleslaw and pickles. Better even than the first time I had it.

Later that day we made our own feast: J's mashed potatoes, slightly weird rice, and our usual sauteed veggies with chickpeas and tofu.

  1. I've never had a pumpernickel everything bagel, that sounds amazing! Looks like a really delicious day, besides the chilled soup!

  3. You have me intrigued, what was weird about the rice? The soup does look lovely, was it just bland?

    1. Eh, I don't eat rice that much so the texture was a little dense for me, plus I threw in some broccoli at the last minute so the ratio was a bit off... I also tried to season it? which I have no sense how to do? so it was just bleh.
The soup was a little bland, but the testure was the most off-putting part for me. It wasn't as thick as I imagined it.

  4. Look at that Pumpernickel Everything Bagel with schmear! And a man that makes vegan Mashed Potatoes?! The mind reels.

    1. C'mon, vegan mashed potatoes are one of the easiest things you can make! These were really good and it was just almond milk, onion, and garlic salt I think.

    2. Onion? Well, speak for yourself, no man has ever made mashed potatoes for me and I am assuming never will.

  5. The pumpernickle everything is my favorite bagel flavor!! I don't understand why more bagel shops don't have it...
Your jackfruit sandwich looks so good- i need to put more effort into finding and eating jackfruit.

    1. Right? It's so good. I don't often see jackfruit (not that I'm particularly looking) but this is a fantastic sandwich so I get it whenever I can.

    1. Anywhere is close when you have a bike! Thanks for letting me know about that place, I'll check it out. That neighborhood is great for that type of food. Jarrod introduced me to this place on Utica and Carroll, maybe? 2 blocks south of Eastern Pkway that has incredible, huge, cheap roti and they serve those same "stewed chunks" - tell yr friend to get there!!

  7. Damn, that soup totally looks like it should be delicious! Really though all I want is a decent bagel. It's been too long!
