breakfast lunch and snacks + cat

smoothie weather starting:

     frozen collards, berry protein powder, frozen banana, strawberries, almond milk

                       oats + chia, peanut butter, raspberries, banana. coffee, reading.

                                        raw kale, avocado, sauerkraut, carrot, nooch

                                        sauteed kale, cauliflower, onion, tofu, jalapeno

                                   raw chard, avocado, tempeh, rice, tomato, sriracha

                                           swaddled Hax. she stayed like this for ten minutes!

                                 went back to Peacefood for more loaf. banana bread this time

Comics, music, and a little food

A quick dessert smoothie (pardon the bad lighting):

    1 frozen banana, vanilla protein powder, cocoa powder, almond milk, and peanut butter

                                    light dinner: raw kale salad, tomatoes, olives, Daiya

"Basic burrito" from Dos Torros: hold the cheese, black and pinto beans, guac, tomatoes + onions, 2 kinds of spicy salsa

                     sauteed kale, broccoli, onions, and chickpeas with Daiya melted on top.
some funny Lisa Hanawalt comics. She's got a new book out and I'm a fan. She does a lot of food-themed stuff, so:

          a breakfast. oats, chia, strawberries, raspberries, banana, almond milk. coffee.

J and I saw Death Side the other night. They're an older Japanese hardcore band who have never played America and were flown to NYC specifically to play that show. It sold out really quickly. so they added a second night. Punks came in from all over to see the show! We are so lucky to have gotten to see them! It was fuckin wild. I didn't get any shots inside, but this was part of the crowd. Some of the only 6 inch mohawks I've seen in the last 15 years!

Purple Themed

Last Sunday, Jarrod and I went down to Gowanus to visit a political comics exhibit at Interference Archive, which I've written a little about before.

In lieu of his regular J breakfast, he made us smoothies before we left: blueberries, oats, almond milk, almonds, and peanut butter. maybe also a banana? These were from the same batch but somehow look like different colors. It's like that viral What Color is the Dress meme.

 After the show we walked over to V-Spot in Park Slope.

I got a breakfast burrito, which was tofu scramble, black beans, guac, tofu sour cream, salsa, and Daiya.

                J got the Philly cheesesteak sandwich: seitan, Daiya, onions + peppers

This breakfast is from another day, but continuing the purple theme: blueberry yogurt, oats, chia seeds, goji berries, and peanut butter. Pretty, no?

  And  a treat of a slice of gluten-free jam and almond streudel loaf from Peacefood!

The Dinner Party and its remnants

Soooo my best buddy at work, Scott, is moving to California in May to go to school. I wanted to give him a send off dinner party since he and I talk about food almost all day at work. He also requested a stick n poke tattoo of my face to remember me by and, well, who am I to say no? It was a small party of him and his fiancee, Erin, me and Jarrod, and my best friend Erica. Erica, Jarrod and I are all vegan, Erin is vegetarian and Scott rarely eats meat, so we were a pretty easy bunch to cook for.
I went with the tofu-broccoli curry from Isa Does It, subbing chickpeas for tofu and serving it over jasmine rice:

            I also made a raw kale salad with avocado, onion, goji berries, and nooch.

and a fruit salad with banana, mango, raspberries, blackberries, orange, coconut flakes, and cacao nibs.

The next day I served the leftover fruit salad on top of oats for breakfast for Jarrod and I:

made guacamole with leftover avocado and cilantro with some chips from the party. Plus a blood orange soda. The light that afternoon plus the plants were making me very happy.

mucho sandwicho

Let's make this quick and painless, I've got a lot of things to post:

         stirfry: kale, broccoli, carrot, onion, tofu, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes

           avocado toast breakfast with black salt, cayenne, and hemp seeds. coffee.

tofurky, onion, avocado, tomato, kale salad, hummus. it's nice when I show the ingredients in the background because it's been a while and I can't quite remember everything in the sandwiches.

tofurky, kale salad, daiya, spicy sauerkraut, cucumber, onion sandwich. A new roommate moved in and she's gluten-free so I wanted to use up the bread, I guess.

                                   a new GT's kombucha in carrot-ginger-turmeric flavor.

Lil Haxan relaxin'. The new roommate also has a little black cat, so photos of Haxan will henceforth be less relaxed, at least until they get used to each other.

Saturday was my oldest friend's bridal shower -we've known each other for 27 years, and she's getting married in June!

The party was at a nice old Parks Department house in the woods. It was catered, but I didn't take any shots of the food - I just had a small plate of fruit and a plain mini bagel, plus coffee. It wasn't really about the food, obviously.

when I got home I was pretty hungry and made this quick dish of sauteed broccoli and tofu with soy sauce, and threw some avocado on top. Ran out to meet Jarrod at a coffee shop to read for a while.

heading back to his place, we stopped at the store to pick up groceries for a meal. You saw my haul last time, this is his: blueberries, tofu, oats, canned tomatoes, chickpeas, espresso, potatoes, garlic, spinach, bread, almond milk (which is obviously supplemented throughout the week - especially the oats, coffee, and berries since he makes breakfast for us both, like, all of the time.)

the potatoes, chickpeas, spinach, tofu and I believe the whole head of garlic are simmered in the tomatoes until cooked through. Et voila.
I'm using up some vacation days at work. The vacation mode got me thinking about food I don't usually indulge in, so I spent a warm day walking around the neighborhood and stopped in at Dunwell:

The Godfather was definitely the better of the two - it didn't help that walking around in the heat melted a lot of the chocolate icing off, but I'm a big fan of coconut flavored stuff in general, SO.

A slightly indulgent basic: sauteed zucchini, broccoli, carrot, chickpea, and tofu with garlic, red pepper flakes, and cheddar Daiya on top.

San Pellegrino clementine soda! I don't often drink soda, but I do love this brand, so sue me. It does have a bit of fresh juice in it. So refreshing.

Really pushed myself yesterday to finish a book collecting some original documents from The International that had just been taking up too much of my time. It's interesting stuff and actually a fairly quick read when I sat myself down to it, but it was kind of a redundant book and a bit of a slog, so I'm glad it's done. Getting up and pacing back and forth and eventually making popcorn (with garlic powder, olive oil, and salt) broke up the tedium.
What, oh what, will the rest of vacation bring?
