in like a lion and out like a lamb

Today's weather is beautiful but the nights have been chilly and I think temperatures are headed down again soon.
The grocery haul and the food reflect the fluctuations.

zucchini, string beans, carrots, shiitakes, lemons, broccoli, red potatoes

bananas, ginger, olive hummus, tomatoes, garlic, avocados, Justin's cup

miso soup with seaweed, tofu, broccoli, shiitakes, carrot, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, anise

vegan Nicoise salad: chickpeas, green beans, potato, tomato, capers

another version of the above with added olives, avocado, and a tahini dressing

a page from a political art book
Fingers crossed for warmer weather. my roommate is moving out and I'm gonna try to have a dinner party in the interim between when the new one moves in so fingers crossed for that as well.

mostly Easter

This looks like an award or Lady Liberty's torch or something. But it's just a sandwich.

seeded wheat bread, tofu, spinach, spicy kraut, tomato, hummus. Ya know, one of them vegan sandwiches.

Romaine & salad greens, baked sweet potato, tomatoes, soy nuggets, barbecue sauce from the Whole Foods bar.

Easter morning breakfast for me and J: oats, coconut flakes, chia, mango, strawberries, almonds, and almond milk.
my brother surprised everyone with a 24 hr visit from San Francisco. He brought his drone and gave us some demonstrations. It was so crazy to watch! There's a camera on it too, which takes beautiful footage. So nice to see him!

The Easter table was low-key but everything was delicious: roasted potatoes, beans + tofurky sausages (my mom was vegetarian for Lent), bread, sauteed spinach, tomatoes with oil, arugula.

I brought 2 large slices of cake from Peacefood for us to split - carrot cake and vanilla. I hadn't anticipated on my brother and his friend coming as well but we all made it work. Here's Jarrod's half-eaten piece with some fresh raspberries my mom had.

As it turns out, Easter Sunday was also Jarrod's + my anniversary, which we may do more to celebrate another night. For dinner it was Chinese food leftovers with added vegetables.

J breakfast while watching Democracy now: oats, chia, almond, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, almond milk. And coffee. And democracy.

A Lot of Oats, some B&H, and spring

made a very large smoothie bowl the other day for dinner. It's lazy but a good way to get in a filling serving of greens when I feel like I haven't eaten enough throughout the day.

This was 1 1/2 frozen bananas, frozen collards, a few frozen strawberries, Vega berry protein powder, almond milk, and lemon topped with coconut flakes and acai granola.

early Spring sky from the train platform on the way to work

WF bar for lunch: raw kale, black beans, corn, pico de gallo, bell pepper, soy nuggets
dinner salad: spinach, broccoli, carrot, tomato, tofu, capers, cayenne pepper, hummus dressing

oats in a jar breakfast at work: oats, coconut flakes, chia seeds, blackberries, mango, almond milk

same salad as above, lunch-sized portion, with added Daiya
Jarrod and I had a nice Friday: reading at a coffee shop, yoga class at 9, dinner at B&H, and a trip to Otto's Shrunken Head to see his friends' band, Lex Loser, play.

                                                                    my B&H borscht

J's B&H brown rice with veggie chili

A refreshing bevvie. Lime seltzer with lemon juice, stevia, and blackberries

FINALLY I freakin got to make J breakfast. Oats, chia, goji berries, coconut flakes, almonds, blackberries, mango, and almond milk. And coffee. We know what we like and we do it well.

That's all for now.

Grindcore Shows to Meditation Group and All the Food In Between

I'm a sucker for coffee drinks, though I wish I weren't.

Luckily this one was good, and with added protein, not very expensive.

Quick cool dinner: avocado, cucumber, tofu with red pepper flakes, ginger powder, and soy sauce. Ate this before biking over to a Pig Destroyer/Drop Dead/Cloud Rat show.

I know it sounds violent (ok so the pit was a bit testosterone heavy) but Cloud Rat and Dropdead are both vegan bands who specifically said so on stage. The show was really awesome.

WF bar: steamed kale, chana masala, roasted acorn squash, bhaji. Glimmery.

Millet, sauteed onions, peppers, broccoli, and tofu with Daiya and a blob of hummus for dinner
J made us breakfast the next day: oats, chia, berries, soy milk. Coffee. Then we went in the city to walk around. Later in the day we ended up at Blossom du Jour.

                                                              I got a buffalo wrap

J got a pesto chicken sandwich

The last of the trash pasta with broccoli, tomatoes, and olive paste with Daiya.

I've been going to a local meditation group, where every week they ask someone to foster the class orchid so I took it this week. Haxan was inquisitive but a very good girl about not knocking it over.

Plain Ole

No trips this time around. Just plain old back to normal meals, for which I am glad.

kale, broccoli, mushrooms, bell pepper, onions, quinoa, Field Roast sausage for me & J

raw collard wraps with tomato, cucumber, hummus, tofu, and a little sprinkle of Daiya

dates with almond butter and cacao nibs

a meal for a trolly parody account my friend and I run. Onions: it's what's for dinner

broccoli, tomatoes, spicy sauerkraut, tofu, and a little hummus in a random lunch notable mostly for the fact that I ate it outside! In the sun! Clad only in a sweatshirt! well, not only

SoDelicious coconut yogurt blueberry flavor with raw acai granola on top
raw collards, tomatoes, tofu, avocado with red pepper flakes and a little Braggs. I'm running out of ways to make my meals even sorta different.

                                                                          Theo cups
And that's that.

Fast Vegan Philly

Jarrod and I made a quick trip down to Philadelphia for a Burn/American Nightmare show. Philly is mad close but I've never been there! A friend gave some tips on where to eat but none of them really worked out since the transportation system is a little confusing (sorry but the NY mta has spoiled me) and we needed to be in certain areas at certain times...
We got into Philly at 11, stopped at an antifa demo (a counter-protest to some 3%ers that was sort of a flat mess) and walked down to Blackbird, where we met a friend I used to work with.

Jarrod got the vegan philly cheesesteak

which he was kind enough to let me taste...

                                                                I got a vegetable wrap
my friend gave us a ride over to the Eastern State Penitentiary, which is a pretty wild looking jail built in 1829 and closed only in 1971. Al Capone was locked up there for a while, we saw his restored jail cell.

Pretty dark, pretty depressing. But they've done some interesting art installations in a few of the cells and a good amount of history. Some exhibits are kind of critical of the criminal justice system, which is cool. An interesting place to visit, if yr nearby. And the audio tour is narrated by Steve Buscemi, ha.
We stopped across the street to warm up/wind down with coffee, reading, and two vegan loaves:

                                                                     banana bread
                                                           pumpkin bread with walnuts
Then we walked around, found Chinese food for dinner that I missed a photo of and went to the show. Burn was sick. American Nightmare was cool, too. I had never listened to them before. Back to the AirBnB and then out early this morning. Like I said, a fast trip. If we go back, we'll see more.
J and I stopped at Toad Style when we got back to Brooklyn.

He got the jackfruit pulled pork sandwich

I got a Casino Dog, which is a Yea Dawg on bread with cheeze sauce, mustard, onions, and home fries.

I also got some hot dawg revenge.
