Bready or Not

Some sky post rain:

1 frozen banana, 1/2 orange, vanilla protein powder, almond milk smoothie

hehehe foolin around with Hax and patches

Oats, coconut flakes, goji berries, dried mango chunks, chia seeds, pepitas, almond milk

Bought some ice cream on sale. It took two tries to get it home because the trains were messed up and I was afraid it'd melt by the time I got back home.

Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge. Not too shabby.

Stopped at a local gallery/reading center recently and this was up on the wall. Vegan zombies.

Raw collard salad, chickpeas, roasted sweet potato, hummus, sauerkraut.

more avo toast and iced coffee

Soba noodles, edamame, carrot, and sauteed dandelion greens with sesame oil, ume plum vinegar, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, and ginger.

I tried re-creating the Rawpothecary coffee protein drink in smoothie form. This is a homemade sunflower/pumpkin seed milk with coffee protein powder, coffee, and a frozen banana. Successful! The milk was fun. I want to do that more often.
And, finally, I went to a local radical archive on opening night of a music exhibit. I had written a piece on Bikini Kill's Rebel Girl and it was published in the booklet to go alongside. Lots of really great stuff up - zines, flyers, record sleeves, a listening room, and a buncha cool punks and radicals. If you are in Brooklyn, go check it out at Interference Archive! It's free!

That's a lot to take in. I'll let that marinate and see you guys soon.

A Post! Just Any Post!

Hey look! A new post and it's not even been a full week yet! You're welcome!!

Oats, blueberries, dried mango, goji berries, chia seeds, almond milk

bad photo of a good sandwich. Hummus, tofu, collard leaves, avocado, tomato, sriracha.

Tabbouli, tofu, Moroccan carrot salad from the WF bar

Fuck yeah, vegan death squad! Where do I sign up? This was in a book about protest in print. This was in the chapter on anarchists and vegans (haha)! It's from an old 90s cookzine called Please Don't Feed the Bears. Rad, right?

                                                                       cat, coffee

Avo toast with black salt, hemp seeds, cayenne, and scallion. Espresso cold brew with almond milk on the side! I gotta make more of that, like, now.

I made cauliflower tabbouli! Apparently cauliflower is "in" right now. No grains, just cauli, mint, parsley, scallion, garlic, salt, pepper, lemon juice, ACV, olives, chickpeas, and tomato.

Breakfast sandwich. Almond butter, mixed berry preserves, banana slices. A classic.

Soba noodles with edamame, carrot, and collard greens with a miso-tahini-sesame oil dressing.
I am EXHAUSTED, so goodbye. Enjoy the weekend. I'll try to catch up with reading yr blogsss tomorrow.

Boston, Take 2

J and I went up to Boston again this weekend for another hardcore show. It's always great to get out of the city and this time we hung out with more of his friends, so it was nice to meet everyone.
Before we left:

                                                                       A breakfast

A lunch: detox salad, kale, tofu, roasted sweet potatoes from the WF bar

A dinner: bok choy, string beans, carrot, edamame with soba noodles and a miso-tahini dressing.

                                                                               A drink
We took an early bus Friday morning and stopped at My Thai in Boston's Chinatown for lunch when we got in.
Lunch special came with a soup:

This was actually really good, but very random. Spicy and sweet.

J ordered some fried tofu drumsticks as an appetizer

I got a yellow curry dish with tofu, J got some rice noodles.
We took a walk around the Arnold Arboretum, which was beautiful and peaceful. We also saw Mad Max, which was neither beautiful nor peaceful, but fucking awesome in any case.
Then for dinner we went to the Middle East, where the show was to be the next day. I got this shot of the menu but nothing of the food I ordered (Middle East salad and fries - they have better vegan option but I wanted a salad.)

The show started at 1 on Saturday but we made it into Central Square early enough to eat at Veggie Galaxy first.

I got the tofu scramble breakfast sandwich with Daiya and home fries. J got a Reuben; his friend Will was with us, but I can't remember what he ordered.
The Middle East was right next door (which I love: Boston still has a pretty solid straight edge crew so it's awesome that sXe hardcore vegans have a place to eat right next to a rad venue), so we entered a 5 hour hardcore tornado.

This is Boston Strangler, probably my favorite from the show. They'd do a few songs and switch off with Rival Mob, who'd do a few and then they'd switch back. Real fun.
Thank you J for taking me and for the awesome days we have. Thanks also to his friend Will, who ain't gonna read this but was really hospitable and drove us around and put us up for a night. Boston is a rad town. I hope we'll be back...

Prep, Farmer's market goods

Prep pays off. Or even just taking the time to grocery shop.

raw kale salad, avocado, tomato, scallion, rice, lentils

stir fry with rice, broccoli, mushrooms, carrot, ginger, soy sauce, rice vinegar, red pepper flakes

some beautiful mesclun greens/edible flowers at the farmers market

I bought sunflower sprouts instead. Couldn't let myself eat a flower. This is raw kale, sunflower sprouts, raw sunflower seeds, tomato (farmar), and a hummus dressing.

book haul, farmer's market haul. The tomato was good, the strawberries were not all that sweet, but okay.

little flower in the berry box

Raw oats with chia seeds, raisins, strawberries, coconut flakes, and almond milk. This is the last time you'll see this bowl on the blog, as Haxan was a very bad girl and knocked over all the drying dishes off the counter. There was glass everywhere >:(

Huge, thick, filling smoothie: 1 frozen banana, half a frozen mango, a few strawberries, vanilla protein powder, almond butter, water.
The end for now.

Greens and Treats

Green Warrior Smoothie thingie from Rawpothecary

I never make quinoa! It kinda drives me crazy because it is so small it gets everywhere, but I do like it. Here is a quinoa salad with tomatoes, scallion, cilantro, avocado, red cabbage, and carrot. Probably Braggs and sriracha because that's what I do.

light dinner: celery, carrot, cherry tomato with hummus

Liz Lovely Triple Chocolate mint cookie

Collard/cabbage slaw with curried chickpea salad from WF

                                                         WF chocolate chip cookie

A Jarrod breakfast. Three kinds of berries!

A me breakfast. Spinach, banana, protein powder, goji berries, almond milk

                                                        my mom's scary beast cat

more to come....eventually
