Pasta Party

I've been eating pasta. I'll admit it. It's cold and I haven't felt well and my friend got me into warm, quick, filling, delicious...pasta.

spaghetti, cooked collards, amped up sauce, nooch.

weekened breakfast: coffee and a gingerbread smoothie.

A really awesome lunch I cooked up and am pretty proud of. Red lentils, stewed tomatoes and collard greens with ginger and garlic. The recipe will be in my next zine!

standard miso soup, with cellophane noodles and fresh shiitakes.

                                                   Squiggly, squirmy cellophane noodles

Two-part breakfast. Cara cara orange and oatmeal with soy milk, protein powder, raisins, and cashew butter.

Chocolate chip cookie from Blossom. I didn't go to Blossom, they sell these packaged at Whole Foods. Soft and tasty. GOOD CHIP DISTRIBUTION < ---important !!!

Took my friend out for dinner for his birthday the other night to an Italian restaurant. There were a few options I could have had but ziti with broccoli, garlic, and olive oil seemed like the best bet.

This is from today. I went to the doctor and on the way home decided to indulge in some self-care items. Namely, 2 lbs of strawberries on sale and 2 feminist books from Bluestockings. This ought to get me through the next few days of medication. Then I'll be on the up and up.

  1. I've never thought to put protein powder in oats, but that is SUCH A GOOD IDEA. I use protein powder in my post-run smoothies, but on mornings like this one (when I ran in 10 degree weather!), a nice, warm cooked bowl of oats would have been better than a smoothie. Noted. Will try this soon.

    1. Yeah, I like it a lot. I have also just put protein powder in hot coffee, which ruins the coffee if you are a connoisseur but is a time saver if you are just hungry.

  2. Lots of great looking meals! The pasta you cooked for yourself looks so great! I'm not a big pasta person either but sometimes I'll crave it big time. I'm jealous of your miso skills... I hope my miso soup comes out that nice! I'm a little jealous of your strawberries and I really need to make a gingerbread smoothie!

    1. I think I am over the pasta craving now, but I still have a lot of pasta and sauce leftover. The pasta will keep, but not so sure about the sauce...
miso is one of the easiest things you can make! I have no skills that you don't.
Really loving the gingerbread smoothie, though I feel slightly guilty there are no greens in it.

  3. I sure hope your visit to the doctor will result in you being better immediately! I'm sure you're ready to be well!! In meantime, delicious pasta and oats! And I agree, even chocolate chip distribution is crucial.

    1. I feel so much better today, thanks. The oats and pasta were good but I am so ready for green things.

  4. I have been looking for a new favorite chocolate chip cookie since Terri changed theirs and, as you know, chip distribution is very important to me too (second only to chip amount). This is now on my list to try! I still love the ones from Jennifer's Way, but they are hella pricy.

I'm so glad you're eating pasta; it gives me some hope that I am not the sole, vegan, pasta inhaler.

Feel better and stay warm! (Is Haxan a snuggler?)

    1. I still have never been to Terri, but I know what it's like when a beloved recipe changes. Never heard of Jennifer's Way.
You would think there would be more pasta on the vegan food blogs, no?
Haxan is NOT a snuggler, though she will patiently put up with me throwing myself into a hug on top of her...for about 3 minutes.

  5. Hey, there's nothing wrong with eating pasta, especially if you're feeling under the weather. Feeling sick is always a recipe for losing your desire to eat, right? So eating the things your body actually wants sounds like a good idea to me. Feel better!

    1. True, I didn't want to eat at all for a while, so I'll take what I can get and keep down.

  6. Aw snap! I wanted to read Icon - I love Mary Gaitskill!...though I can't find it on my shelves, I must have left it at the shop, hopefully it's still there. Up the self care, that's my prescription. I've been dancing on the verge of whatever has been going around and it is nasty. Take care, bud.

  7. What is wrong with eating Pasta?! that Ziti looks so great! Sorry you are still unwell, but apparently there are meds for what ails ya, so maybe you will be back to your old tricks soon.

    1. Pasta usually makes me feel sick and sad but I guess I already felt sick and sad so BRING ON THE PASTA. The ziti was very good, and the broccoli was cooked really well even though it was all swimming in oil.

  8. I hope the drugs from the doc kill what is ailing you! Pasta meals are totally perfect in this frigid crap cold- those cellophane noodles are also just fun to eat. And strawberries sound wonderful.....

    1. Thanks, the meds killed it dead.
Love those cellophane noodles, they make me laugh. Unfortunately the strawberries were only okay. I should have known, since it isn't the season, but they were on sale so I was hoping...
