Products and Meals

Black eyed peas, tomatoes, collards, sriracha

Bearitos Veggie Puffs: new favorite snack. Cheaper than Earth Balance Puffs, with real vegetables:

Raw, vegan kimchi:
Here, on a salad of romaine lettuce, avocado, tempeh, and tomatoes. Refreshing.

Spinach smoothie with RawFit protein powder, banana (not frozen), ice cubes and....maybe nothing else?

Farmer's market carrot-raisin cookie and iced coffee for breakfast:

This was a different day (i.e. I don't drink more than one coffee drink in a day.) Rawpothecary Moka Chia. It was on sale, thank goodness. Pretty tasty though kinda gritty. Best super cold.

Spinach and tomato salad with the last of the black eyed peas. After learning that you don't need to soak them, they may be a new favorite.

And, finally, not food-related: I got a new bike! My last one was stolen a couple months ago and I've felt kinda lazy since then. (Walking just isn't the same!) I didn't even use it all that much since it was sorta heavy and shaky so I'm really stoked to have a good, new one to zip around the neighborhood.

Hope you guys are well. Talk to you soon.

  1. Greens, coffee and bikes... it doesn't get much better than this! I love the little bear on the Bearitos bag, too cute! The salads all look delicious and your farmer's market cookie is definitely a highlight.

Hooray for your bike!!! It's too cute! That's terrible that your last one got stolen but I'm so happy for you that you replaced it and will get back into biking everywhere :)

    1. Haha, the bear is very cute, yeah. LOVE those cookies. I found a recipe online for how to make them but so far I haven't gotten around to making them.
Thanks! Did you ever get that cruiser you were looking into?

  2. I don't even like kimchi and i want that jar! What a great label- who puts their own photo on the food they make?? (Aside from the quaker oats dude).
Those carrot raisin cookies are the only reason i go to the farmers market in the winter.
I actually really loved the sweet and spicy greens from rawpothecary, very filling from all the veggies. I felt virtuous afterwards. But its just expensive enough to make it obnoxious somehow.....
How exciting to have a new bike!! You DO have a helmet, right???

    1. Haha, the funniest part is uploading the photos onto Google+ and it asks me to identify her! Like, "Do you want to tag Sunja the Kimchi Lady in this?"
I only buy those Rawpothecary drinks on sale and so far haven't seen the Greens discounted, but maybe I'll spring for it one day.
YES! I have a helmet! I was very helmet hair-y yesterday.

  3. Thanks for the reminder I haven't biked ONCE yet this summer. FAIL. Are those puffs like the old Pirate's booty? Finally, I can't remember: did you tell me about the TJ's kimchi? If not, I like it much better than Sunja's, so I highly recommend it. Cheaper too, so win-win.

    1. To be fair, the weather this summer has been pretty iffy. Yea! There are a lot like Pirate's Booty - do they not make that stuff anymore?
I did mention buying the TJ kimchi. I like it too but it's been a while since I've been to TJ which I guess is the reason I got this instead. Sunja's is the cheapest of the "raw vegan" kimchis I see. Hawthorne Valley is good but like 4 dollars more!

  4. Hooray for a new bicycle!! I've been perusing Craigslist, as I do want one but as you mentioned - heavy and big are on my "no" list and I'm not educated enough to know what to look for. Enjoy that beauty on your rides!!

Tell me about the carrot raisin cookie. Was it like a carroty flavored cookie or a cookie with carrot shavings in it?

    1. I didn't really know what I was looking for either, but going into the bike shop really helped. The one I got is a hybrid, which is a little sturdier than a road bike (and slightly heavier) but if you are just planning on taking rides around town a single gear road bike should be fine. Not sure how hilly Denver is, but my bike has gears, and it's nice to have the option when I go uphill!
The carrot raisin cookie is so amazing!! The first ingredient is carrots, so it's super moist and chewy. It's also full of raisins and walnuts, and flavored with maple syrup! I found a recipe online to approximate it, I'll try to make them and then you can decide if you want to taste for yrself.

  5. Did you cook the BlackEyed Peas yourself? Unusual thing to make a batch of.

Nice Bike. I hope you can keep it safe. I dont think I could handle having my stuff stolen so frequently.

    1. Yes, I did. I originally bought them for the bhindi masala from one of Isa's book. They are unusual, but I like them.
So that's one reason you don't need to be upset you aren't in New York about. Stuff gets stolen. It's always frustrating but it's just stuff.

  6. How's the bike working out there? A pox on bike thieves. Strangely jealous of the kimchi - the readymade stuff here is always fishy (Why? just say no!) and my attempts at making it just went ever so wrong. Like funky and exploding wrong.

    1. Loving the bike - I went into the city with it yesterday! The NYC public transportation system really isn't bad at all, but I like having more freedom of movement, and not having to wait on the mta schedule.
A lot of kimchi here is fishy too :( haha! I tried to make some once too and it was...bubbly, if not explosive, which I think it's supposed to do but it was a lot of work for not much kimchi, so I buy it now.
