Dunwell Doughnuts!

Dunwell is a place. It is a real, actual place, though it is also a vegan dream. Dunwell is an all-vegan doughnut shop in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and I have never visited, even though it is a real, actual, all-vegan dream, and pretty near my house!
And I still haven't, but Greg did the legwork for me so that we could celebrate National Doughnut Day on Friday.
I don't have much to say about it, so I'll let G's photos do the talking...

Only non-dairy milk options! The smaller chocolate covered doughnut came with the coffee he bought, and was cakey. The pink frosted one was raspberry flavored, and about twice the size of the tiny one. We split that one and both thought it was really good. I can't even remember the last time I ate a doughnut, but that may change... I'm glad G went and made the flavor choice because I am terrible about making up my mind, and would have just stood at the case, open-mouthed and drooling but unable to pick a single doughnut. Yes, I would say G "did well," heh heh.
Did you guys get a chance to celebrate National Doughnut Day? Have any of you ever visited Dunwell? Or Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland? If I ever visit Portland, that place is on my list for sure.

  4. I've been to Dunwell a few times (and love it of course!) and I visited Voodoo in Portland about five times over the 10 days I spent there last year! Whilst I love them both Mighty O in Seattle make my favourite doughnuts ever.

  5. I was in NYC last fall and wanted to visit Dunwell, but we'd been walking for 3 days straight and it was too far from the ferry stop so we didn't make it there. But I did get a vegan cronut from the Blossom bakery which was awesome. There are vegan donuts at the big farmer's market in San Francisco. Tons of flavors, and all were delicious!

    1. Oooh, I heard about those vegan cronuts. I bet it was great. Was just recently thinking about how awesome CA farmers markets must be... and there it is!

  7. I've never been to either of the places you mentioned, though we 'passed by' Voodoo in Portland. However, I have been to Mighty O in Seattle, and there are some who say Mighty O is the best. I can neither support or deny the claim, but I believe it has merit. :) Nice job of 'capturing the flavor' of Dunwell.

  11. I’ve heard great things about Dunwell Doughnuts and have yet to try them! It’s definitely a vegan dream - and wow, near your place! Lucky you :) Me too, I’m terrible about making up my mind and I usually have a hard time choosing which flavors! Voodoo Doughnuts is actually near my home (outside of Portland), I love their voodoo doll that oozes blood red jelly. But the best doughnuts I had were Ronald’s Donuts in las Vegas - they were the best airy donuts I’ve ever had.

  12. Well, it's about time!!! :) I can't believe I almost missed this post. I've been to many doughnut places including Voodoo and Mighty O, and Dunwell is my favorite. Mighty O was really great, too...Voodoo wasn't really my thing (although I obviously support them and their veganness), I think I just felt a little overstimulated by all of the artificial food coloring? But you CAN get married there, apparently.

If I was going to Dunwell Donuts (this isn't something I'm only now surmising...it's actually a regular conversation in the VASF family..."If I was going to Dunwell Donuts" - I would definitely get a glazed and a chocolate covered with nuts. everytime.
