PUNK FOOD

Swiss chard, tempeh, tomato, sprouts, carrot salad with apple cider vinegar, nooch, and cayenne. Alongside a punk biography in St. Mark's Church courtyard, conjuring up living spirits spoken of in the book.

half an espresso chip ABC cookie. 'Twas very good.

Jess' swiss chard-barley-tomato stew. I haven't gone grocery shopping in a long time, subsisting off this mostly, and good thing too - it was chilly today.

Kashi GoLean with dried cranberries and almond milk

We're gonna have a Taco Party tonight.

Chips and salsa, G and I each got a burrito that was impossible to photograph so you'll have to imagine. G got his regular Santa Cruz with avocado, sauteed spinach, rice, beans, tofu sour cream, etc. I got a Nopalitos burrito with garlic, refried beans, roasted red pepper, potatoes and nopalitos. We ran into my friend Esther and her boyfriend here! It was crazy! So we all sat together and, like, noshed.

WW wrap with jalapeno hummus, carrots, tomatoes, swiss chard, and sprouts. I like these sprouts a lot - they are fennel, alfalfa, and radish - so they're nice and peppery.

  1. I need to grocery shop, too. I've been popping in to buy one or two items but otherwise not really buying what I should!

Taco night sounds like a good idea! As do sprouts!

    1. Yeah, it gets dangerous and expensive not grocery shopping like a normal person

  2. I like your 'spirited' salad — nothing like conjuring spirits in a church courtyard. The chips have that dark, fresh-fried look —are they homemade in the restaurant? In any case, now I'm wanting chips and salsa. It's a good thing I'm too full from dinner to do anything about it.

    1. Yes, I believe they are homemade. They actually aren't my favorite chips but the salsa is fantastic.

  3. Anything with nopalitos gets my attention too! I just looked at their menu and there are so many vegan choices- have you had the horchata? Is the tamale dulce vegan? That sounds amazing... I'm sure they could leave off the sauce which has dairy.
And why is it cold again?! That stew sounds like the perfect meal to have in multiples.

    1. I haven't tried their horchata but I always want to make my own. They do have a great vegan selection, which is so nice. It's not like some mexican places where you just have to leave off the meat and cheese. I only wish there were a way to make the nachos vegan! It ain't nachos without cheese.

  4. Still haven't been to Taco Chulo! If you had posted a pic of the burrito I might have ditched work for it ;-)

  6. Oooh taco night sounds so good right about now! The chips and salsa look so tasty and I'm imagining the burritos were fantastic as well. I LOVE those espresso chip cookies too, they are sooooo good. Lovely salad and wrap as well!

  7. Those ABC Cookies have yet to disappoint me. I would've found a way to photograph the Burrito. How come no one has pointed out those drums behind the Taco Chulo sign look like they hold toxic waste?

    1. Yep! Do you refrigerate the second half? It wasn't nearly as good as the first, but then again I couldn't wait to let it get to room temp.
Those toxic waste drums are just straight up NYC garbage cans. Lots of people = lots of garbage.

  10. I've been on the hunt for good reading material lately, and you've got me intrigued by this title. Sounds promising, but what do you think so far? Would you recommend it? I need something that will distract me from my upcoming 45-minute commutes to and from classes. (Ugh!)

    1. WELL, I love stories of 70s NY but if you haven't read Patti Smith's Just Kids, I'd recommend that one rather than this, which is more particular to himself. Just Kids gives a great overview of the time period, the people in the city, the music and art scenes etc.
Commuting to work is the most productive reading time I have too!
