Bananas + Grains for Breakfast, a Fugue

Oatmeal + jam breakfasts are pretty delicious. I mashed half a banana and some almond butter into the cooking oats to make it super creamy.

And sunflower seed bread with almond butter is a perfect breakfast (add some banana and you have a well rounded meal.)

I even splurged a little and bought some cereal. This is Kashi Heart to Heart Warm Cinnamon with added dried cranberries and banana. Exactly what I wanted, and more filling than I expected.

Not to be forgotten...this could almost be breakfast. I used this recipe, except I grabbed a random flour from the cabinet. I thought it was whole wheat flour, but I think it was cornmeal? The banana chip muffins are a little different, but not bad. Not bad at all.

One cannot live off bananas and grains alone, though.

NOW it's breakfast. Single serve travel french press! No more $2 every morning!

  1. Nice! There's no reason to try and face the day until you're on the outside of a truckload of caffeine.

  3. I really like the result of cooking bananas with cereal — it's great with buckwheat — but for some reason I can't fathom, combining banana slices with nut butter makes me gag. It looks and sounds like it would be the perfect combo, but it gets me every time I try. Ugh.

    1. I really want to try buckwheat soon. I used to love the flour in pancakes. Yum.

    2. Bob's Red Mill creamy buckwheat cereal. Though I've heard WF has a 365 brand that's cheaper and better.

  4. That is an impressive coffee!! I don't even like coffee but I bow down to your giant travel press! :) I'm very much digging oatmeal (or porridge in these here parts) with banana and almond butter at the moment. Sunflower seed bread looks awesome too. Gah, so much food and so little time to stuff it in my gob! :)

  5. Single serve travel french press?!?!!?!!? You are my hero. Seriously that's amazing I'm so insanely jealous!

I am such a sucker for bananas and grains and I miss them both tremendously. The oats look perfectly creamy and I LOVE bread with nut butter and banana. It's so simple but seriously a perfect meal. I like your additions to the cereal... there's a lot of nice texture happening there! The muffins look yummy and chocolatey! Yum!

  7. Allow me to echo the above sentiments regarding the single serve coffee press - AWESOME! I love the twist on the muffins, I bet they are delicious. Nut butter and bananas, cereal and bananas, oatmeal with bananas - yes to all of them.

  10. My friend has a fancy travel thingy like that but she uses it for loose leaf teas- i'm a coffee girl myself and french press really does make a good cup! I am anti banana myself but nut butter and breakfast is always a good call. The muffins are such a great grab and go choice.....i'm assuming "chips" mean chocolate right? Who did i lend my muffin pan to...?

  12. Fruit and grains, together at last. I mean, together forever. :) And that single serve coffee is a great idea! I do buy coffee most days (the coffeeshop is sort of my office), but on library days...yeah, that would be super convenient.
