Sundries Sunday

Toasted gluten-free bread w/ melty (!) cheddar Daiya and baby spinach.

Pretty much the same, with tomato and one slice had mashed avocado instead of spinach. With black pepper.

To break things up a little, here's my walk to the train one morning, down Bushwick Ave. I dunno, I liked the light.

Probably (hopefully) the ugliest/most monochrome meal I'll feature on here. Leftover mashed Korean sweet potato and tofu with Braggs and red pepper flakes. It was tasty and filling though.

Also leftovers. The lentil salad mixed with the kale salad from Christmas. Plump little goji on top. I realized while eating this that I got my family to eat raw kale, hemp seeds, and goji berries and I smiled.

One night I went to my friend's house in the pouring rain. This is McCarren Park in Greenpoint.
Last night I went to the same friend's house in the snow. This is (basically) the same viewpoint:

I like Greenpoint for a lot of reasons. They have nice health food stores. One day I stopped in coming home and bought these:

The Chai kombucha was SO GOOD. Oh man. (It's also the slightly higher alcohol content!) But I can't find that flavor anywhere else! I even looked again today and didn't see it. I also really like the ProBars. The ingredient list is super long but the bars are tasty and (yes, pricey but) actually decent for a meal replacement. They keep me full for a long time.
One more breakfast, and one more Greenpoint door photo that I think all you vegan cat owners will appreciate:

I don't know when I'll be able to post next but til then, Happy New Year to all of you!

  1. Oooh lots of great stuff in this post! Both toast meals look delicious. SImple meals like that are always a win. The leftovers look great and the chai kombucha sounds delicious! I'd actually give kombucha another try if I could find that flavor ;) Cool pics around town, I really love the rain and snow pics! Very cool! The sign is so funny!

    Happy New Year!!

  2. Aren't you a social butterfly this holiday season. Be careful on those dark wet streets, you never know when a pothole might open up swallow you whole!

Hope I can find that Kombucha flavor down here.

Happy New Year to you, Haxan & G! Thanks for all the great posts in 2012. Especially the drama. Love that.

  3. I like the pictures of the area, especially the two of the same viewpoint. It's always so interesting how different captures can turn out.

    The lentil salad sounds fantastic.

Happy New Year to you and I hope 2013 treats you well!

  4. Oh yeah, Daiya sammies. At first I thought that tofu/sweet potato picture was some sort of weird mock meat, ha ha! Totally looked at it wrong. And big win with the lentil salad, those are always awesome "heh" moments! Happy new year! :)

    1. Yeah, that tofu/sweet potato thing looks...really weird. I'm planning on tricking lots more people into eating goji berries soon.

  5. Happy New Year to you, too. That's my favorite brand of kombucha, but I've never tried to chai. I always get the ginger.

  6. I, too, love seeing neighborhood pictures! I enjoy seeing places through other people's eyes! As for the crazy cat post, shouldn't you have one of your door? ;)

I hope the lack of posts means that you are moving into a place all your own?!?!

    Happy New Year, lovely Maud!

    1. I'll try to take more hood shots for you, then. Greenpoint is a really interesting part of town. And yes! I need to ask where those people got the sign. The building itself is very cool, too - it looks a little like an old fire department.
Haha I am LOOKING for apartments but that is still a ways off. Certainly a hope for the new year :)
Happy new year to you Ingrid!

  7. Great looking meals- that melty daiya avocado combo is brilliant! I actually got the family to eat a raw kale/brussel sprouts salad after it was all shredded super fine and mixed with sesame oil and soy sauce- i bet that lentil kale salad would be amazing. How do i always forget about lentils??
    Love the cat sign

  9. Happy new year's eve! The chai kombucha looks really good. I'll have to keep an eye out for it here. And the cat sign is awesome. I have a "beware: attack cat" sign in my front window. Maybe I could use the other on my gate. Good looking eats. I had a grilled daiya sandwich last night. One of my comfort food favorites.

  14. The cat sign is great; I guess you can consider yourself warned. ;-) I have never had kombucha, and I'm not planning on trying it yet, but I have decided that this will be the year I try raw kale. The lentil AND kale salads look delicious and seem to go together nicely. Happy new year to you also!
