I like to see grocery haul posts like Sarah's, and so -
Groceries from Trader Joe's:
Gluten-free rice bread, sesame snack sticks, raw almonds, raw cashews, roasted + salted pistachio meats, sunflower seed butter, sliced mashrums, Earth Balance...
Spinach, organic zucchini, cherry tomatoes, dates, rosemary, an avocado, and in the back - a dark chocolate orange (those ones you slam and make segments!)
Lunch with all those goodies:
Salad with spinach, mushroom, tomato, zucchini in balsamic vinegar with red pepper flakes, toasted gluten-free bread with monterey jack flavor vegan cheese (FYH) and tomatoes.
Haxan all up in that:
Tonight's dinner also with said produce:
Spinach, tomatoes, zucchini, avocado, kimchee, mushrooms, sunflower seeds in a tahini dressing.
Despite all those groceries, I still sometimes go out for lunch salads. Via Whole Foods:
Collard, bell pepper, red cabbage salad with lentils and mushrooms, plus some roasted sweet potatoes. The color is weird because I took it at my desk at work under the fluorescent lights. Another at desk shot with Whole Foods sustenance:
I won't show you the post-mixed shot, which caused my co-workers to grimace and ask UH WHAT IS THAT SLUDGE YOU ARE DRINKING. Whatever, man! I'm just tryna be healthy! It was tasty but left flecks of alfalfa and tangerine pulp in my teeth, 'cause I'm super attractive.
Finally, the sweet, smart Raechel from The Rebel Grrrl Kitchen nominated me for a Liebster award, which I appreciate. I'm not entirely comfortable sharing facts about myself on here but I do love to read about other people. Can that be one of my "about me's?"
Can I tag Vegan Showdown, VaVa, Allysia, and Ingrid in this without reciprocating?

I love that sliceable FYH cheese...gonna have to pick some up! It's been too damn long since I've had a good ol' salad. Oh god, salad. Thanks for the reminder. And that's cheating with the Leibster, ha ha! :) Here, let's make a deal: I will tell you 11 random facts in this comment, and then you can comment on my blog with 11 random facts of your own. Then you don't have to share facts on your own blog! Heh heh, sneaky.
ReplyDelete1. I fucking hate winter (yeah, negative, I know, but I just happened to glance out the window and it's grim) and wish to become very rich to move somewhere hot.
2. I've been playing Tarot cards since I was 12. Good times!
3. I didn't get my driver's license until I was 22. That might not be a big deal for you as a big city kid, but in my small city, everyone and their dog gets their license at age 16.
4. 100% cat person, not a dog person.
5. I'm a cool piano teacher. My students have told me this. It's because of the pink hair, ha ha.
6. I hate doing any machinery-based fun. Think rollercoasters and snowmobiling. *shudder*
7. More things I hate, whee! Sirens at wave pools. When I was a little kid I nearly peed my pants from that siren.
8. One more hate thing - storms. Like, super paranoid hide-in-the-basement type. I don't know how the hell I'm going to manage in Texas.
9. I'm going to the University to have coffee with an old friend in...2 minutes.
10. Oh god, I crack under pressure. What to write about?!
11. I still have an old tank of a flip phone, and my bank card just has the stripe and not the chip. Behind the times indeed.
(I support Allysia's idea!)
DeleteI was just talking to my friend about flip phone solidarity! AND I did NOT have any coffee today. It was pretty grueling.
DeleteHa ha, I just had to respond to a couple of your list items here. First up, Robyn is pretty badass. Her newer album (came out a couple years ago?) is pretty angry, I like it. So no shame there. :) Good pop exists! And I've never seen Wayne's World...so, uh...yeah. Ha ha. Also on the subject of Tarot, I'm really really really excited to share something that I've been working on! I think you'll dig it. I will post about it on my blog soon. :D
DeleteI think we bring the same grocery list to Trader Joes. Which shows I should really make more salads with the same ingredients I end up sautéing in some way. Your pictures always make me hungry. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, well, actually my list was about 6 items shorter but Trader Joes is just so exciting that I couldn't hold back.
DeleteI've never seen grocery hauls, but I like it! It was so suspenseful how we saw all the products loosely laying about your table, and then somehow they came together to make...awesome meals! Woo hoo! All looks good, girl. :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha yes, the before and after! I think that's why I like them too.
Deletethat tangerine juice is bomb
ReplyDeleteIt was like, orangey, but more orangey than orange juice.
Deleteexactly
DeleteI love haul posts I guess because they're ripe with possibilities, but the Haxan picture definitely steals the show. Kitty is homing in for a good sniff. Or maybe a bite? My cat always acted all "ew" about vegan food.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I tease Sweetie about the sludgy looking drinks he has, but I wouldn't do that to a coworker. I hope you continue enjoying the fruits of your haul!
She definitely wanted to eat it! I didn't realize you had a cat as well as Blue.
DeleteSadly, I was reminiscing. My "ew" cat and the one that followed her have moved on to the great catnip garden in the sky.
DeleteI love grocery haul photo's :) I wish there was a Trader Joe's and a Wholefood's in the UK, the best we have is Holland and Barratt!
ReplyDeleteAnd Harrods, esteemed grocer to the Queen!
DeleteYeah, I think that's fair! : )
ReplyDeleteI wrestle with being so open on the blog (especially as someone who has had students find her blog, eek!), but it's just s'darn fun. But I totally understand/respect your decision not to.
Hooray for spreading the Liebster love though. : )
I wish I could give in to the fun, haha. I'm really bad at coming up with anything interesting that isn't depressing or, like, obscene ha!
DeleteThanks for the mention though!
I think I like the work mashroom better than the original...has a certain ring to it. Lots of yummy healthy good there! I love kimchi in salads...what kind do you buy?
ReplyDeleteThose drinks do look sludgy...I used to take to work sometimes too. It's healthy sludge though.
me too! It's so cute. I think Lauren from Ginger is the New Pink got me into kraut and kimchi in salads (especially with avocado!) This brand is mother-in-law's kimchi, which isn't my favorite brand and only one flavor is vegan but it's growing on me.
DeleteThis post should come with a disclaimer that it shouldn't be read by people who are at work thinking about dinner. It was all going really well for me- until you got to the mix-in; thank you for not sharing. And, finally: "pistachio meat" is even funny when a vegan says it.
ReplyDeleteHaha I try not to read food blogs until an hour before I know I will be near food. Yeah, I was laughing at "pistachio meat" too. It's almost as funny as "nut cheese."
DeleteAww thanks Maud! :) I can appreciate you not wanting to do the random facts, sometimes I think I overshare, ha!
ReplyDeleteI love your grocery haul post! I'm incredibly jealous of your yummy haul. Trader Joe's seriously has the most delicious snacks. Those sesame seed snack sticks are so good. Great looking produce too and even better looking meals resulting from it! Great post!
There is no such thing as oversharing! I like to read about other people but I never know what to say about myself...
DeleteI ended up giving the bag of sesame sticks away because I ate too many too quickly. TJs is dangerous sometimes!
Thanks, I really like yr grocery posts too.
I didn't realize you ate so many nuts. How was the FYH Sandwich? Doesn't look like you tried to melt the cheese. Can you explain that decision?
ReplyDeleteI try not to eat too many nuts; these are for a recipe I want to make if my roommate ever gets out of the kitchen. The sandwich was decent. I did TRY to melt the cheese but it wasn't having it. I guess I didn't try hard enough.
DeleteOh, making Nut Butters for Xmas this year? Thanks for reconfirming that FYH doesn't melt. I'll continue to stick with Daiya.
DeleteA lot of great items you picked up! I am stalking the Trader Joe's site in Denver, and noticed their liquor license public notice sign. City Council better approve that ASAP.
ReplyDeleteLunch looks absolutely amazing! I had a big salad for dinner tonight, I think you would have approved. Haxan is so adorable!
Thanks for the Leibster tag! I'll try to come up with something slightly interesting, and post them tomorrow.
Ooohh! Cheap wine and beer is the best. Good luck on that. I approve of any and everything you eat.
DeleteCat & snack!
ReplyDeleteI dearly miss TJs--especially for nuts and other snacky things. Truly the best!
Haha now I have You're Simply The Best! stuck in my head. Better than aaallll the restttt.
Deletewhoa!
ReplyDeletethat salad is brilliant and right up my alley. kimchee and veggies with a tahini dressing is pure brilliance.
xo
kittee
Thank you Kittee! I thought it might be overkill to put dressing on the kimchee but it was like Point/Counterpoint but more delicious.
DeleteI like your random food shots! And the hauls are always fun--esp since your TJ's haul looks very similar to one of mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dynise! Trader Joes makes shopping more fun. Except for the lines.
DeleteI kind of like the florescent colors of the desk food. My TJ hauls are a lot like yours.
