Thus Begins Fall

Today was very quiet and subdued for a lot of reasons.
Breakfast was a smoothie I had never made before. I kind of made it up as I went along but the flavors are basic flavors.

Pear-Carrot smoothie with ginger, lemon, walnuts, and flax meal.
Lunch was salad:

And dinner didn't happen so much as I just ate steamed broccoli and some roasted (okay, burnt) string beans standing up. I also baked, because, like I said, it was a very subdued day around here and baking seemed fitting.

Happy Herbivore's Gingerbread Loaf (with added dried cranberries.)

Peace.

  1. I'm gonna start right with the baking, that gingerbread loaf looks AMAZING! I've never even been a big gingerbread person but between the loaf and the smoothie I'm totally craving it now. That smoothie is a gorgeous color.

  2. You always have the best looking salads. The bread is very fitting for a subdued day. It looks quite comforting!

  3. How does the flax meal taste in this smoothie? Can you even taste it at all?

I tried flax meal in a berry smoothie last year and it overpowered the whole thing. I felt so sick after! But the flavors in this sound great, especially with the fall season approaching.

  4. Bread looks to die for. I made the nastiest smoothie today with all sorts of witches brew herbs today, Michelle Bachman would have been having a big O' with my herbal Cauldron!!
Nettle, Maca, Hemp, MSM, 1/2 pound Kale, banana (had to sweeten it up!)-and I don't even know what else,
but it was a bit TOO bitter for me. I sucked it up and hope it did my body good!

  5. The food all looks delicious but I refuse to submit to the idea that it's fall. No, no I say. Let it stay summer!

    Peace.

  7. What a great idea for a smoothie, and so healthy too. Baking actually relaxes me, too, and makes me feel better. Hope you have a good day today. :-)

  8. Love the sound of that smoothie! A cup of that with a slice of that gingerbread would make it feel like fall no matter what month it was.

  9. Sounds like my kind of day! I like just winging it with smoothies like that. I've never put carrot in my smoothie though. I'll have to give that a try sometime.
Funny that you made HH's Gingerbread loaf, because I almost made that last night, but got too lazy and never baked anything.

  10. That gingerbread looks so moist and cranberries seem appropriate for that type of bread; I bet they give a nice zing to go along with all those spices.

  11. VAVA, I'm actually a big gingerbread fan and this definitely came through.

    Thanks, Molly. Comforting yes.

Isobelle, I couldn't taste the flax at all - I mostly used it to thicken the smoothie. That's weird about your berry smoothie! Maybe because they're a more delicate fruit?

Get Skinny, that sounds intense! Nettle and kale, oy. I tried kale in my smoothie once and it barely blended so I leave it alone now.

Andrea, we have a few more good summer days in, but that's all I'm willing to admit!

Jessica, thanks. It was not so good but definitely subdued.

Blessed Mama, thank you. Baking is quite calming, and you do it so well.

Amber, totally! I would carry fall around in a pill if I could.

Michelle, yeah, sometimes wing-it smoothies come out bad, though, so I can be loathe to try them. If you like ginger, definitely make the bread! It's very strong!

Rose, I wish I had added more. Next time.
