Less Food, More Talk

Today was a day of leftovers and too much bread and chocolate plus I'm about to head out to watch G bang on a drum so in lieu of food I have a survey for you. I'm genuinely curious as to what your answers will be, because I'm a food snoop. Fill it out if you so desire, or just one or two answers either in the comments section or in yr own separate post. If you make a post, let me know! I'll probably post my answers next time. If you care.

1. What is the most extravagant food item you've purchased of late?

2. What was your favorite meal growing up?

3. What food item do you most wish you could expertly make every time?

4. Do you have a favorite dish you've ordered at a restaurant? Which restaurant?

5. What do you eat that makes you feel healthiest?

6. What was the first cookbook you obtained?

7. What is the oddest meal you've ever cobbled together?

8. Best sandwich concoction?

9. Quick! What is the last food you just ate?

10. Describe your usual breakfast scenario. What, when, where, why...

11. What, if anything, would you like to change about your diet?

  1. Hi there :)

    1. What is the most extravagant food item you've purchased of late?
    Hmmm... maybe jackfruit or yuba?

    2. What was your favorite meal growing up?
Probably the meatloaf and mashed potatoes my mama made. She used to bake my dad meatloaf birthday cakes......

    3. What food item do you most wish you could expertly make every time?
Yeasted breads. I'm getting much better but have yet to have consistently good results.

    4. Do you have a favorite dish you've ordered at a restaurant? Which restaurant?
I don't eat out much. When I do, I go to the middle eastern place down the street for a bit of falafel and hummus or take a trip to Watercourse for their Dona Lee wrap. Seitan, avocado, vegan ranch, wrapped. Good shazzle.

    5. What do you eat that makes you feel healthiest?
    KALE! & brown rice.

    6. What was the first cookbook you obtained?
Good Housekeepings Junior Cookbook. Still have it :)
    7. What is the oddest meal you've ever cobbled together?
Hard to say. Lots of strange leftover combos have gone down in my kitchen...

    8. Best sandwich concoction?
Almond butter and vegan marshmallow fluff or spinach, hummus, & sundried tomato...

    9. Quick! What is the last food you just ate?
    Leftover BBQ tvp chunks. Mmm.

    10. Describe your usual breakfast scenario. What, when, where, why...
It's early.. On an ideal day I'll drink some coffee or tea and make myself a bowl of miso soup out of whichever vegetable bits that I have lying around. Usually eaten in front of my computer in my room, checkin' e-mails and watching cartoons.

    11. What, if anything, would you like to change about your diet?
I've been traveling a lot lately and my diet has been seriously lacking in the fresh produce area. Gotta get down on more of them greens....

  2. Hmm, hmm, hmm, so many questions...golly, I'm not sure I can answer all of them, but LASAGNE was my favorite meal growing up. My mom used a ricotta filling and a meatless tomato sauce...happily, this is so easily veganized and I think it's more delicious made vegan than the original version.

  3. I purchased vanilla bean paste AND raw cacao powder.
    My grandmother's stuffed artichokes.
    The perfect vinaigrette.
Don't eat out much. Always love summer rolls at a Thai restaurant.
    Green Juices and smoothies.
Around the World Cookbook by Sheila Lukins.
    Hummus, Avocado, Sprouts, Veggies...
Taste of the Pecan pulp cookies in the oven as we speak.
A smoothie in front of the computer. Coffee or tea.
    More greens. Less sweets.

  4. 1. What is the most extravagant food item you've purchased of late? Sweet chili sauce that I needed for a single recipe--at $5, seemed extravagant!

    2. What was your favorite meal growing up? My family's slovakian food--halushki, halpuki, and pierogi.

    4. Do you have a favorite dish you've ordered at a restaurant? Which restaurant? I always order mujudarah at middle eastern restaurants.

    5. What do you eat that makes you feel healthiest? Collards and kale!

    9. Quick! What is the last food you just ate? Happy Herbivore breakfast sausage patty on homemade wheat bread.

    10. Describe your usual breakfast scenario. What, when, where, why... Because I lift weights 4 times a week, I usually eat high protein breakfasts: a smoothie made with soymilk, flax seed, banana, and frozen green peas plus homemade wheat toast and a HappyHerbivore breakfast sausage patty or two (8 gs of protein a piece) or a slice of tofu quiche; these breakfasts are between 20-30 gs of protein. On non weight-lifting days, I generally eat oat bran with soymilk, flax seed, and maple syrup or a fruit/soymilk/flax smoothie with wheat toast and pb&j.

    11. What, if anything, would you like to change about your diet? More variety for breakfast! The above are the same meals I rotate through the week. I recently added tofu quiche but would like to incorporate more.

    This was fun! Thanks!

    10. i've always been a cereal eater. this winter i ate oats because i was freezing and wanted something warm. but now that the weather has warmed up, i am back on cereal.

    11. i'm always looking to incorporate different veggies and fruits. now i live by an asian market and there's all kinds of produce i've never seen before and i'm dying to bring it home and figure out how to cook it.
