Easter Week Detox, day 1

In an attempt not to go completely crazy, I am working up to the Master Cleanse on Friday and Saturday so as to be holy and wholy clean. It is probably going to be a little anticlimactic, though, since I went to the folks' yesterday for Palm Sunday dinner/more like a few relatives and friends just showed up randomly and my mom is going to be busy on Easter. I already bought damn (pardon my French, God) groceries already and I need a reason to cook and bake, so I'm still going to make the quinoa tabouli and poppyseed cake that I was going to. Holidays just aren't the same anymore, but I guess that's okay.

The detox/cleansing plan is as follows:
Monday, Tuesday: raw food
Wednesday: one raw meal, liquids the rest of the day
Thursday: liquid fast
Friday, Saturday: Master cleanse (lemon water with cayenne pepper and maple syrup)

I also eased my way into the week by having (doing? taking?) an enema yesterday and fwoosh. I showered, went to my parents' and had green beans, some rice with a tomato sauce, bread, some olives and red pepper slices, and a few strawberries. Oh and champagne, which they handed to me not 10 minutes after I arrived. I stopped at 3 glasses. Not too bad but they really cook with a lot of oil and I was also sort of worried that the oil was butter and blah and blah. There was some good conversation, and some funny food conversation, and some boring old people talk too. Something about a cheez doodle.

Today:
warm lemon water with clove
caffeinated tea
banana
2 small handfuls of chopped walnuts
20 or so dried apricots
salad: spinach, carrot, chickpeas (okay, not raw but I have to use them up), red cabbage, beet with tahini dressing (tahini, lemon juice, sea salt, garlic, water)



dinner: raw tabouli from Super Cleanse by Adina Niemerow. It's basically broccoli (in lieu of the grain) and traditional tabouli stuff: mint, parsley, cucumber, tomato, olives.

Over the teeth, Past the gums...

Look out stomach, here it comes. Color that is. I got a digital camera so this will be more fun.
The weather is gorgeous but I can't make myself run.

Oh - close to buns, kind of, a guy from work is leaving. I made bagels for him (and the rest of the folks at work because he is always talking about them. I made: plain, pistachio, flax-molasses, and cinnamon-raisin. It was my first time making bagels and they really aren't hard - they're kind of fun, actually, but I tried a flax-molasses one, and they were a bit um...yeasty? Also the yeast didn't proof much but I plodded ahead. Anyway, I got some vegan cream cheese and left half plain, and added garlic cand chives to half so maybe it'll cover the taste. Texture-wise I'm pretty pleased.
I've been making a lot of new stuff, actually. Greg and I made an apple crumb cake from the Cafe Flora cookbook the other day, which was almost a disaster but we scooped out the un-cookable middle and put in in a muffin tin. The outer ring I sliced and am also bringing to work today. I tried that, too, and it was tasty and all but I'm glad to be getting rid of it because it was MAD sugar and shortening, even though we cut back in both respects.
I am definitely gaining some horrible weight and eating some terrible food. Pre-Easter detox and plan will come. Until then, viva la carbs.
